This Privacy Policy explains what information the Powered by Women app collects, how we use it, and who we share it with. It describes how the app works and applies whenever you use it.
1. What we collect
1.1 What you give us when you join
| Data | Required | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Yes | Identifies you to other members |
| Email address | Yes | Sign-in and account recovery |
| Password | Yes | Sign-in. Stored only as a hash on our servers, never in the app |
| Job title | No | Shown on your profile and business card |
| Business name | No | Shown on your profile and business card |
| City | No | Used to find members and events near you |
| Phone number | No | Shown on your business card if you add one |
| Profile photo | No | Shown on your profile, business card, and messages |
You can sign in with your email and a password, with Google, or with Apple. When you sign in with Google or Apple, that provider confirms your identity and shares your name and email address with us. If you use Sign in with Apple, you may choose to hide your email, in which case Apple provides a private relay address that forwards messages to you.
1.2 Matching information
As you use the app, we ask you questions to help you build out your profile. This starts at onboarding and continues over time, and you can review and update your answers whenever you like. We use your profile answers, together with your activity in the app, to suggest members you might want to connect with. That activity includes the businesses you list, the events you sign up for, the groups you join, the members you connect and message with, and the outcomes you log about your connections and referrals.
1.3 What you create in the app
The app also stores what you create in it: messages, group posts, questions and replies on the ask board, event RSVPs, files you upload or share, private notes about members you have met, and the outcomes you record about a connection. Your private notes and outcomes are visible only to you.
1.4 Location
The app uses the city you choose. It does not request location permission or read your device’s GPS. When you choose a city, we look it up and store its name and approximate coordinates so we can show you members and events near it. These coordinates describe the city you selected, and they update when you change your city.
1.5 Subscription and payment
When you subscribe to a paid membership, we receive your subscription status, which tells us whether it is active, which plan you have, and when it renews. We use this to give you the right access. Others handle the payment itself: Apple or Google process purchases made inside the app, and Stripe processes purchases made on our website. Your full card details go to them, not to us. We use RevenueCat to manage your subscription and keep your status in sync across your devices.
1.6 Analytics and advertising
We use PostHog, a product-analytics service, to see how members use the app, which helps us improve it. For example, it shows which features are popular and where members run into difficulty. We do not use advertising or ad-tracking in the app, and we do not sell or share your information for advertising.
2. Device permissions
- Photo library. We ask for this only when you choose a photo for your profile, business card, or a message, and we receive only the images you pick.
- Files. We ask for access only when you choose to upload or share a file, and we receive only the files you select.
- Camera and microphone. The app does not use these, and both are disabled.
3. What you share, and who sees your information
Powered by Women is a community platform, so some of what you add is meant to be shared with other members. You decide what to share and what to keep to yourself, and you can change it at any time in your profile and settings.
What other members see
Other members can see your profile, which shows your name, photo, title, business, and city, along with anything you choose to post or send, such as your group posts, your questions and replies on the ask board, and the files and messages you share with them. They never see your email address, phone number, private notes, or recorded outcomes, unless you choose to add them to your business card.
Service providers who help us run the app
We work with a small number of providers to operate the app. Each receives the information it needs for its role and handles it under its own privacy policy and its contract with us.
| Recipient | What they receive | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Laravel Cloud | All account data | Runs our servers and database |
| RevenueCat | Your subscription status and a purchase identifier | Manages your membership across devices |
| Stripe | Your payment details for web purchases | Processes payments made on our website (Stripe holds card data, not us) |
| Mapbox | The city text you type while searching | Turns what you type into a place |
| Your name and email, if you sign in with Google | Confirms your identity and signs you in | |
| Apple | Your name and email, or a private relay address if you hide it, when you sign in with Apple | Confirms your identity and signs you in |
| Expo (EAS) | No personal data | Delivers app updates |
| PostHog | How you use the app (usage events) | Product analytics to help us improve the app |
| ActiveCampaign | Your name and email, if you opt in to marketing | Sends our marketing emails |
Purchases made inside the app are processed by Apple or Google under their own terms, and they hold your payment details, not us.
We may also share information where the law requires it, or where we need to protect the safety of our members.
4. Marketing emails
If you opt in, whether in the app or on our website, we may send you marketing emails about Powered by Women, such as news, events, and updates. We send these through ActiveCampaign, and you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any marketing email. You will still receive the essential messages about your account.
5. How your data is protected
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS. Your sign-in token is stored in the device’s secure storage, which is the Keychain on iOS and the equivalent keystore on Android, rather than in ordinary app storage. Your password is not stored on the device. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your account data while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, matching answers, private notes, and recorded outcomes, and remove them from our active systems right away and from our backups within 30 days.
Messages and group posts you sent to others may remain visible to those recipients, in the same way an email you sent stays in the recipient’s inbox.
7. Your rights
You can view and change your name, photo, title, business, city, phone number, and matching answers at any time in Settings › Profile and Settings › Matching answers.
You can delete your account at any time in Settings › Account. Deleting your account removes your data as described in “How long we keep it” above.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your information, such as the right to a copy of it, to correct it, to delete it, or to opt out of its sale. We do not sell your personal information. To exercise any of these rights, write to hello@poweredbywomen.com.
8. Children
Powered by Women is for adults in business. You must be at least 18 to use it, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
9. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell members in the app.
10. Contact
If you have any questions or concerns about this policy or how we handle your information, please contact us.
